HR audit guidelines, legal compliance, and tools for succession planning were the focus of a presentation given by Steve Williams, President of EctoHR, Inc., at the Bluewater HR Association’s (BWHRA) February meeting.
BWHRA members and guests attended, including Human Resource professionals from the Port Huron area and beyond, representing industries spanning from healthcare, to manufacturing, to banking.
Six Important Questions
Steve gave insight into how small, medium, and even large-sized businesses could successfully implement an internal Human Resource audit by answering the big six questions: Who, What, When, Where, Why, and How? Many attendees had never taken part in a full-scale HR Audit process. All were asked to take home at least three main points that could be implemented into his or her company’s HR department.
Discussion topics included HR Audit Basics:
• Ensuring basic HR compliance, starting with the forms and process an applicant or new employee experiences when coming into your organization
• Assuring compliance with laws such as HIPAA, EEO, FLSA, ADAAA, etc.
Steve also advised listeners on Advanced HR Audit steps, including:
• Recruitment and retention strategies, including gaining an “outside” view of your company’s employment brand
• Tools to use in succession and replacement planning for the company’s future
Always something to learn
Steve’s wealth of knowledge in HR practices generated quite a bit of discussion among the BWHRA attendees. Steve’s enthusiasm for participating in business training and presentations brought home the information to everyone regardless of their years in the profession.
