Updates to OSHA’s Recordkeeping Rule

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has made two key changes to its recordkeeping rule starting in 2015. First, it expanded the list of severe injuries that all employers must report and second, it updated the list of industries that are exempt from the requirement to routinely keep OSHA injury and illness records using the OSHA 300 Log.

As of January 1, 2015 all employers must report:

  1. All work-related fatalities within 8 hours
  2. All work-related inpatient hospitalizations, all amputations and all losses of an eye within 24 hours

The following employers are exempt from keeping the OSHA 300 Log:

  1. Those with ten or fewer employees
  2. Those in certain low hazard industries

For those employers required to keep injury and illness records, the OSHA 300 Log must be posted by 1/31/15 and remain posted through 4/30/15.

If you have any questions on who should complete the OSHA 300 Log or how to properly document incidents, please contact EctoHR, Inc. at 810.534.0170 or hr@ectohr.com.
